How To Clean Your Glasses 2021 Guide

Dirty reading glasses are the worst, right?!

Lint, grime and oil just seem to cling to lenses like a bad smell in a world full of oil, lint, and grime… and, well… bad smells. ANYWAY! We want to lead the fight against the forces of darkness, AKA dirty lenses, and have thus prepared this definitive guide for proper cleaning practices for your lenses. Hence, we present the “Passport Eyewear 2021 Guide to Clean Glasses”.

MAINTAINING YOUR EYEWEAR

Deep cleaning isn't difficult, but getting around to actually doing can be a bit of a chore. You can totally avoid it, though! Just not... indefinitely. Anyway! Simply keep your glasses and sunglasses clean after you get them by cleaning them with a lens cleaner spray and wiping them down with a microfibre lens cloth. If you want to keep them REALLY clean, you can regularly wipe them with an individual lens cleaning wipe like a Brightwipe. We also recommend that you keep your eyewear in a case or pouch when you're not wearing them to avoid scratches.

Need lens cloths, lens wipes, or lens cleaner? We just happen to have those items right here! It’s actually what we do 😉.

DEEP CLEANING YOUR GLASSES

Sometimes, though, deep cleaning is inevitable! It really should be done a couple of times a year to help maintain your eyewear's life and quality. But what is the best way? Well, we'd argue this way! This is a recipe for the cleanest glasses in the land.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

You're going to need some things! Make sure you have the following handy:

  1. Warm water
  2. Dish soap
  3. Microfibre Cloth

These items are things you should already have in your home. It is important for us to note that the dish soap should be plain old dish soap. No micro beads for hand scrubbing goodness because that’ll scratch the lenses. No weird hand lotion inclusive dishwashing liquid, either. That fancy hand sensitive lotion will leave an oily residue on your lovely clean glasses after you’ve put all the effort into washing them. Also, do NOT sub in a tissue or paper towel for a microfibre cloth. Those things will scratch your lenses and there’s no miracle method for getting THOSE off. If you need microfibre clothes, we sell them HERE.

HOW TO DEEP CLEAN YOUR GLASSES:

Now that you have the integral glasses cleaning items, lets move onto the method for cleaning your sunglasses, glasses, or eyewear.

STEP 1:

To start, run your glasses under lukewarm water. Don’t use hot water because it will decrease the lifespan of some lenses with coatings.

STEP 2:

Put a small drop of dish soap on your fingertips. Gently rub on both sides of the lenses and the nose pads. The best way to clean eyeglasses at home is with dish soap.

STEP 3:

Rinse with warm water, and gently dry with a clean, microfiber cloth. Use light touches. The microfiber cloth leaves no lint, so your glasses should be perfectly clean.

For the sake of convenience, and also because it’s the year 2021 and there’s a video for everything, we’ve included this awesome video guide we found to demonstrate. Follow along at home with this step by step guide to give your glasses the clean they deserve.

THE CLEANEST GLASSES EVER

So now you should have the cleanest looking glasses in the history of clean glasses, but will they stay that way? MAYBE! It’s up to you, though. In order to keep your glasses clean for a long time without having to do a full deep clean, we recommend regular wiping down of your glasses with a microfibre lens cloth and cleaning spray or wiping down your glasses with individually wrapped lens wipes. We also recommend keeping your glasses in a pouch or case to prevent scratches when you’re not wearing your glasses... Have we said that already? If we have, it must be important!

On top of THAT, you really should do a deep clean from time to time just to make sure your glasses stay as close to new as possible. By following along with this guide, you'll be able to keep your favourite sunglasses or readers like new for longer.

We hope you found this guide instructive and informative!
